Get To Know Jay Besheer:

How long have you worked at Gunter? Loosely since 1963 when I’d ride around with my grandpa at eight years old. But more full time since 1969 when I was in high school. I always knew I wanted to take over my grandpa’s pest control business one day, so I gained a degree in business from University of Missouri and joined the company full time after college working with my dad who became the president after my grandpa passed in the mid 70s. I also studied entomology (the study of insects) in college!

What are your favorite things about Kansas City? Easy place to live, no traffic, slower pace. I grew up in Waldo, MO, and went to Hale Cook, Bingham and Southwest High School, and the University of Missouri. I made lifetime friends over the years growing up here and still pal around together.

What Are Your Hobbies: I’ve been bowling with friends on the same team since I was 12 in 1967 in south Waldo at Ward Parkway Lanes.

What’s Your Favorite Vacation You’ve Ever Been On? A trip to Italy with wife and two kids

The Most Unique Experience At Gunter? I gave a last-minute termite inspection for a customer on Christmas Day

Favorite Insect: I don’t have one, but I’ve collected insect art like sculptures, prints, and paintings for about 30 years

Favorite Family Tradition: cheese and Cho.

Oldest Memory Of Working At Gunter? In 1963 when I was eight years old, I would ride around to customers houses with my grandfather on Saturdays when I was out of school and talk to the owners of the houses and tell them how I wanted to be a bug man in the pest control business just like my grandpa when I grew up.
